Course Objectives: This course is for the student who wants to learn to use the Internet and the World Wide Web effectively and efficiently. Web page design and development using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) will be emphasized. Topics covered include: services on the Internet and the Web, searching and researching techniques, standard HTML and extensions, web page development styles, and the legal, ethical, and social issues related to the Internet. PR CIS 102 or equivalent.
Instruction Method:The course material will be presented as a lecture and live examples covering concepts of the Internet focusing on Web site design, development, and maintenance. The details of HTML, along with Internet research will be covered in lecture and applied by students to construct a working Web site. Students are expected to read assigned chapters before each lecture.
Evaluation Methods: Evaluation will be based on the successful completion of 4 projects. Since this course emphasizes hands on Internet research and Web site development, written, in class exams will not be required. Students will be expected to use the college or personal computers to complete the assignments. See attachment for project grading criteria.
